Intermittent Fasting and Menopause: What the Evidence Can Support
Time-restricted eating is a meal-timing pattern, not a menopause treatment. The women-specific studies are small or short and do not establish an ideal schedule or long-term safety for every reader.
The evidence is bounded
An eight-week secondary analysis included 13 premenopausal and 19 postmenopausal women with obesity; perimenopausal women were excluded.1 Another eight-week randomized open-label study enrolled women aged 40–65 and used calorie restriction in both groups.2 Neither design establishes fasting as necessary for menopause health.

Questions before trying a schedule
- What outcome is being measured, over what time and against what comparison?
- Could medicines, pregnancy, eating-disorder history, illness or training load make restriction unsafe?
- Can nutrition adequacy, strength, symptoms and adherence be monitored without treating scale weight as the only outcome?
